  1. We all love Summer parties, cookouts & BBQ's. And with any party or gathering, as part of creating a Lifestyle of sustainable health and fitness, the same guidelines apply: Prepare in advance and go by the 80/20 guideline.
  2. So here are my Top 12 Tips to Eat Healthy
  3. At A Cookout or Summer Party:
  4. 1. Eat a snack before you arrive - don't arrive famished!

2. Bring healthy options – Healthy is as Healthy Does. Or Host A Healthy Cookout.

3. Go for Grilled meats/seafood without heavy sauces and raw or grilled veggies

4. Avoid creamy dips, dressings and cream based salads - save on saturated fat, calories and risk of food poisoning from sitting out in the heat!

5. Refresh with hydrating Fruits for snacks & dessert

6. Go Light on Alcohol & Alternate with Water

7. Fill up your plate just once – remember portion “fist size” control

8. Go For Corn Tortilla Chips or Nuts/Seeds - vs. potato chips and other processed, saturated fat and high carb chips

9. Dip The Guacamole and Hummus - filling and more nutrient dense than cream based dips

10. Keep Cold Foods Cooled Properly - bring a cooler and check cooled foods before consuming to avoid getting sick

11. Play After – walk, throw a Frisbee, dance, MOVE

12. Remember Your "Feel" and "Why" - How You Want To Feel After and Later and WHY do you want to make healthy choices even when tempted? Choose Healthy foods and move 80% of the day and enjoy an occasional treat, whether it be that chocolate chip cookie, cold beer or piece of pie.
