When dining out, don't be afraid to ask to modify an entrée to make it healthier, such as asking for a grilled, not fried version, no butter on veggies, a side of veggies or fruit vs. white starchy sides, pass on the bread basket, hold the cheese and croutons on a salad, etc. Restaurants WANT to please you and accommodate your healthy requests so that you'll come back and be happy with your dining experience.

Studies show that when dining out vs. cooking at home, we consume an between 400-1,000 more calories, consume more sodium and saturated fat AND spend more money. Dining out is fun and a treat, so enjoy it, but remember you can still choose healthy options!
